thirsty thursday | ferrari-carano bella luce
the other night, tom & i sat down at the bar of a local restaurant. i ordered a sauvignon blanc & really relished that first sip. the evening sun was hot on our skin as we walked in & as i drank that wine, i thought to myself, “white wine season is here,”. not that [...]
thirsty thursday | ameztoi 2010 getariako txakolina rose rubentis
sold under the street name “liquid crack”. i’m not actually sure how you pronounce a word that begins with “tx”, but i do know that this rose is light, flavorful, effervescent & if you see it, you’re going to want to grab more than one bottle. retails for around $18.
thirsty thursday | dibon cava
this clean & citrusy spanish sparkler has been gracing our table quite a bit lately. unlike cheap crap, (see also: andre) most cavas undergo méthode champenoise: secondary fermentation in the bottle. this produces the perfect little pinpoint bubbles that don’t induce the killer after consumption headaches quite like the lower quality stuff. &? this comes [...]
wine wednesday: chappellet
{2006 napa valley petite sirah} “bold, ripe, rich and fleshy. seductive in its own way, showing tiers of wild berry and blackberry, with hints of vanilla and baking spice. packs in a wallop of fruit, yet it’s remarkably elegant and polished.” -chappellet tasting notes basically it’s a fabulous wine, as is anything made by phillip [...]
wine wednesday: schramsberg
{schramsberg 2002 j. schram} i hate to tease y’all with this, since the availability is pretty limited, but sometimes you just have to break out the good stuff. if you were to take a sip with your eyes closed, you’d think this was a fine french champagne, but really it’s the top of the line [...]
wine wednesday: plumpjack
i know we mentioned it already in a honeymoon post, but this chardonnay deserves it’s place on wine wednesday.{plumpjack 2007 reserve chardonnay} fermented & aged in stainless steel tanks, as opposed to oak barrels, this is pure, unadulterated chardonnay with crisp fruit aromas leading way to striking acidity. we picked it up at the winery [...]
when foodies honeymoon: day four
well, we woke up extremely well rested, after having accidentally slept for 15 or so hours. & we were off for an early lunch at mustard’s grill, a little place that looks so unassuming from the road. we drove past it several times & may not have stopped, if not for a recommendation from a [...]
when foodies honeymoon: day three, part two
so after our fabulous lunch at bottega, it was off for a marathon of afternoon tastings. life is hard. first up: plumpjack.{plumpjack, plumpjack 2007 reserve chardonnay} lovely wines from both plumpjack and cade wineries. & apparently an influx of nc people had come through their doors on that very same day. hmm. we picked up [...]
wine wednesday: titus
{2007 titus chardonnay} titus wines are never absent from our wine stash & are very often in our glasses. why? because they’re just consistently outstanding wines. it’s really that simple. & while their reds really shine, don’t overlook this chardonnay, because once you taste, you’ll know it’s a value, even at $20, because it can stack [...]
wine wednesday: elizabeth spencer
{2008 elizabeth spencer chenin blanc} the winemakers call the color of this wine “brilliant white gold”, but i’m going with “compatible cream”, since that’s the shade of paint on our walls & it matches exactly. a vibrant white, with crisp acidity & a touch of minerality, that’s worth the $25.
