mint julep

just in time for the derby.  cheers!

4 mint leaves, plus a few more for garnish
4 oz bourbon, chilled
1/2 tablespoon mint simple syrup, recipe to follow
crushed or shaved ice

1. muddle mint leaves, a few drops of bourbon in the bottom of a sturdy glass.

2. fill with crushed ice, about 2/3 the way up. add simple syrup, top with bourbon & stir until glass gets all frosty on the outside. garnish & add a short straw (you want to be able to smell the mint with each sip).

mint simple syrup:
equal parts:
loosely packed mint leaves
water
sugar

1. put everything in a small sauce pan. bring to boil. boil for one minute.

2. remove from heat and let stand for 30 minutes. strain through a fine mesh strainer & store in the fridge for up to one month.
